LiveMusicTC was created to solve a few problems.
Updated December 5, 2023
Hello. My name is Ben Richey, local musician, local live music enthusiast and former full-time guitar instructor. As a musician, I have experienced difficulties first hand when booking gigs. As a seeker of live music, I observe the challenges, finding all the options available, for both real-time and future events.
MISSION STATEMENT
My goal is to drastically improve the live music experience for both locals and visitors through significant exposure of local venues and musicians. It is my vision to link musicians to all the venues in a way that has never been networked before. Provide the opportunity for venues to showcase themselves and be relieved of all scheduling and advertising in a new and exciting way.
LiveMusicTC to be THE central hub for all things live music in TC and the surrounding area.
Let me explain in further detail. I am grateful to say I served as the exclusive house musician at Bowers Harbor Vineyards for 12 years. For many years, I also played weddings as well as corporate and private events. In 2022, I decided to take the year off and, together with my wife, set out to explore local live music. I was previously disconnected to the local scene, since playing at only one public venue and not having the free time to check other musicians out.
During our exploration, we were discouraged to find dates and times wrong, listings with wrong information, and most importantly, so many events not even listed. To our delight, we stumbled across many talented musicians in the area. Why aren’t they listed somewhere? Where can I find more information about them? Where are all the places that offer live music? These are questions asked frequently by both locals and visitors.
Music, especially live music, is my life passion and I set a goal to solve these issues, and more. I am happy to report that after struggling to find and land local gigs, I have taken a spot as the Saturday night resident musician at Traverse City Whiskey Co., as of September 2023.
Problem
- When it comes to live music in Traverse City and the surrounding area, there is not ONE source that lists all events. Events with genre selector, type and proximity filter to your current location.
- There is not one source that features all local musicians, providing individual profile pages.
- In addition, many locations (venues and their employees) do not have the time and resources to communicate and effectively schedule with musicians, or spend the time advertising. Both musicians and locations may be stretched thin to advertise efficiently and thoroughly, for best user experience.
Solution
- LiveMusicTC was created to provide local area musicians, venues and consumers a one-stop-spot to explore all this area has to offer. A place for musicians to showcase their talent through personal profile pages and full performance schedules.
- Venues that host live music have their own dedicated pages to display their full offering.
- A mobile friendly outlet where consumers can easily find where live music is happening right now. Also explore which artists fit their genre preference and even leave ratings and reviews for musicians they watch perform.
Here is where all the ducks align…
LiveMusicTC is the central hub, secretly working hard in the background, connecting all musicians to venues and vice-versa. LiveMusicTC organizes and advertises all events for those venues who subscribe to the LiveMusicTC network. These venues and their employees will enjoy freeing up their resources to let us do the legwork.
Ask any musician…
Q: “Would you prefer one point of contact for all your local gigs? One person that you could call, text or email? What about having a dedicated profile page for seekers of live music to learn about you and your schedule?”
A: “Yes to all!”
Ask any venue…
Q: “Would you like one point of contact who handles all of your scheduling and advertising? What about a profile page where locals and visitors can learn about your establishment and seek you out for offering live music?”
A: “YES PLEASE!!”
