At Bel Lago, we cultivate over 100 varieties of grapes across 37 acres, favoring those that thrive in cool climates and express our rich soils. Among our diverse selection are popular vinifera varieties such as Blaufränkisch, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, Gewürztraminer, and Riesling, along with rare varieties like Auxerrois and Siegerrebe. In addition to our esteemed wines, we produce a variety of hard ciders, including Raspberry, Watermelon, Slim Crickets, Siegerrebe, and Cherry, as well as our signature low-alcohol wine seltzer. Our winemaking team, comprising Charlie Edson, Blake Lougheed, and Kyle Leppek, meticulously crafts bright, crisp white wines and deep, complex reds, with a special focus on extended barrel aging for certain varieties.
Established in 1997, Bel Lago Winery is perched atop a hill, surrounded by lush vineyards and offering a unique panoramic view of South Lake Leelanau. Our tasting room provides an intimate setting to enjoy our exceptional wines, made with a deep respect for the Leelanau Peninsula. Each year, under the careful management of vineyard manager Tomas Moreno Jr., we harvest and press between 125-150 tons of grapes, starting in mid-September. With an unwavering commitment to quality and excellence, our wines and ciders reflect the distinctive soil and climate of our beautiful location. To enhance your experience, we offer live music, creating a vibrant and memorable atmosphere for all our visitors.
